Scientific Drilling has an immediate opening for Technical Specialist – MagTraC in the Houston, Texas Technology Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to enable continued business growth of the MWD Ranging Product Line.
- Assist in developing, planning, and executing MagTraC business opportunities with direct involvement in all phases of the business.
- Involved in making technical presentations to customers, interacting with district/region personnel, and continually striving to improve the technical presentation of the MagTraC product line.
- Serve as a technical focal point for MagTraC inquiries.
- Provide technical support to district/region personnel in identifying and developing MagTraC business opportunities.
- Prepare technical MagTraC proposals, operational procedures, end-of-well reports, etc.
- Provide support to field-based MagTraC operations.
- Assist in developing MagTraC opportunities by making initial technical presentations, explaining product/service features/benefits.
- Assist in introduction / training of field personnel for MagTraC field operations.
- Develop presentations and support material to enhance technical presentation of MagTraC.
- Assist in resolving customer issues by investigating problems, preparing reports, making recommendations to management.
- Recognize opportunities for sister product lines and assist/communicate as necessary internally to capture opportunity.
- Participate in industry organizations such as SPE.
- Keep management informed by submitting weekly activity reports.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in physics, earth sciences, mathematics, or similar technical degrees that place emphasis on analytical and reasoning ability.
- Understanding of oilfield operations is preferred.

Scientific Drilling has an immediate opening for MWD Coordinator in the Farmington, New Mexico Operations Base.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Manage and coordinate the operations of the District business unit.
- Organize field staff and base staff on a day-to-day basis, allocating appropriate duties to ensure the efficient running of the operation. Organize crews, equipment, and inventory.
- Ensure that all technicians are competent to carry out the required tasks in a professional, efficient manner.
- Ensure that the required equipment is available, and that the equipment is fully functional and in operational condition.
- Ensure that survey reports for customers are completed and made ready in a timely manner. Responsible for ensuring all survey data is checked, certified, filed, and stored in accordance with Company practices and QA. Responsible for ensuring certification for equipment and offshore personnel is current and in accordance with requirements.
- Develop and maintain industry relationships which provide opportunities for new work. This includes understanding and evaluating customers’ technology/operating needs and recommending solutions which improve their performance and business processes.
- Assist in the recruitment, evaluation, and termination of field technicians.
- Comply with all aspects of SDI HSE policy.
- On call 24/7 and capable of making clear, concise decisions concerning work in progress.

Directional Drillers
- Performs directional drilling services at the well site without supervision.
- Plans, executes, and manages all phases of low-to-high complexity directional drilling jobs to deliver quality service that meets client expectations and company standards.
- Provides technical support to clients and other company crew members at the well site.
- Leads/manages any type of directional drilling job.
- Assists in pre-job planning (equipment and personnel) and mobilization.
- Works diligently in the initiation, investigation and close-out of non-conformance reports.
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge of all DD techniques and surveying methods required to complete the directional drilling job.
- Possesses expertise on advanced well planning using directional drilling software.
- Assists clients by providing solutions for drilling issues.
- Assists in the completion of End of Well reports.
- Acts as the SDI client point of contact for drilling operations at the rig site.
- Effectively manages inventory and supplies required at the well site.

MWD Operators
- Supports the MWD Coordinator, as required.

- May attend pre-spud, DWOP, and pre-planning meetings with clients.

- Provides quality service related to job preparation and planning.
- Responsible for supervision, training, and development of any Lead, Second and Trainee MWD Operators.

- Provides pre-job and post-job support.
- Possesses advanced knowledge of rig-up and rig-down at the well site.
- Able to prepare and troubleshoot all MWD/LWD tools.
- Responsible for LWD log generation and delivery.
- Supervises shop technicians in checking and preparing MWD/LWD equipment for the job.
- Responsible for generation of required reports.
- Leads post-job debriefings.

Scientific Drilling is recruiting for Product Line Manager at the Applied Technologies Center in Paso Robles, California.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Devise methods to improve oil & gas drilling operations, determining the need for new or modified tool designs, and engage in onsite Measurement-While-Drilling (MWD) and Rotary Steerable System (RSS) operations;
- Complete pre-job drilling preparations including review of well profile designs, resistivity logs, and equipment selection and testing;
- Complete and maintain timely and accurate records of drilling operations including daily activity reports, incident reports, and end-of-well reports;
- Provide care and control of on-site company equipment including inventory control, scheduling, and equipment handling and trucking;
- Complete post-job equipment inspections and confer with operations, engineering, and technical personnel in order to resolve design, research and testing problems with equipment;
- Conduct field testing and research on directional drilling and MWD equipment to determine design flaws and improve functioning of equipment;
- Supervising field personnel while troubleshooting problems with downhole equipment;
- Work with engineering staff in designing and implementing new methods for use in the field with MWD and RSS technologies;
- Train field personnel in the use of proprietary MWD and RSS equipment in new markets where the company is attempting to penetrate the market with new customers;
- Test and manage the testing of new technologies with proprietary MWD and RSS equipment to integrate said new technologies with existing MWD and RSS equipment throughout the fleet along with overseeing the implementation of adequate training protocols are developed and implemented;
- Oversee teams made of technicians and degreed engineers involved with the corrective actions needed for defective or non-conforming MWD and RSS tools to ensure problems are adequately addressed and tools are returned to field operations with proper quality assurance.
Education/Experience:
The position requires a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, as determined by properly evaluated credentials, or a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, as determined by properly evaluated credentials, plus at least five (5) years experience in the job offered, or at least five (5) years experience as a Field Engineer in the oil and gas industry.

MWD/LWD Field Engineers
Looking for both experienced and new MWD/LWD Field Engineers. Ideal candidates should possess a strong technical background, willingness to learn, have strong written and oral communication skills and have the ability to adapt to new problems and situations in remote drilling environments. A post secondary education and/or previous rig experience is considered an asset, although not a requirement. Applicants must live within a one hour drive of Aberdeen, UK, must have the legal right to work in the UK and must be able to mobilise worldwide at short notice.
